ADHD in the Workplace: Training and Reasonable Adjustments

Most organisations don't have an ADHD problem. They have a system built for one type of brain, and people quietly burning out trying to fit it.

I deliver ADHD workplace training, manager workshops and neurodiversity coaching for UK organisations, in person or online. If you're working out what reasonable adjustments actually look like in practice, or you've got talented people struggling and nobody's sure why, that's the work.

Why capable people stall under pressure

Stress reads as danger to an ADHD brain. When that happens the brain deprioritises the prefrontal cortex, the part that handles planning, sequencing and starting things, in favour of the fight-or-flight response. It doesn't take much stress for that switch to happen.

Which is why an employee can be genuinely excellent for months and then, under a tight deadline or after a difficult conversation, appear to lose the ability to do basic parts of their job. It looks like attitude. It's biology, and it's reversible once the conditions change.

Understanding that single mechanism changes how most managers handle the conversation, and it's usually the moment a training session lands.

What reasonable adjustments for ADHD actually look like

The legal duty is straightforward: under the Equality Act, ADHD can count as a disability, and employers have to make reasonable adjustments. What's less obvious is which adjustments genuinely help.

In practice, the ones that work tend to be unglamorous and cheap: written follow-ups after verbal briefings, flexibility on start times rather than on total hours, a named person to check in with, quiet space or noise-cancelling headphones, deadlines broken into visible checkpoints, and meeting agendas sent in advance. The ones that don't work are usually the ones designed to be seen doing something.

I help you work out which are worth putting in place for the people you actually employ, and how to have the conversation without it becoming a performance issue.

What I deliver

ADHD 101 for teams.

What ADHD actually is, the misconceptions worth dropping, and where the real strengths sit alongside the real challenges.

ADHD awareness for managers.

For the people whose job it is to support ADHD team members well, not just avoid getting it wrong. Covers adjustments, the conversation itself, and what to do when performance and neurodivergence get tangled up.

Reasonable adjustments in practice.

A working session for HR and leadership on assessing needs, implementing adjustments and reviewing whether they're helping.

One-to-one coaching for ADHD employees and leaders.

Often the most cost-effective adjustment available, and frequently fundable through Access to Work rather than your budget. [More on that here]

Who I've worked with

Bournemouth and Poole College (staff development on ADHD awareness and inclusive practice), BCP Council (Neurodiversity and Disabilities in Business, 200+ attendees at AFC Bournemouth), many recruitment businesses on how ADHD affects recruitment and sales performance, Brighton Music Conference, Principality Building Society, You Are The Media and many other companies for consulting and training.

I'm an EMCC Senior Practitioner with a postgraduate degree in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology, 13 years coaching, and around 300 ADHD clients. I was also diagnosed late myself, so I'm not delivering this just from a slide deck.

Common questions

Is ADHD covered by the Equality Act?

Usually yes. ADHD can meet the definition of a disability where it has a substantial, long-term effect on day-to-day activities, which brings a duty to make reasonable adjustments. A formal diagnosis isn't strictly required for the duty to apply once an employer is aware.

What are the most common reasonable adjustments for ADHD?

Flexible hours, written confirmation of verbal instructions, task and deadline restructuring, quiet workspace or noise cancelling, regular short check-ins, and coaching. Most cost very little. The expensive part is usually replacing someone who left because nothing changed.

How much does ADHD workplace training cost?

Priced bespoke, because a half-day awareness session and an ongoing leadership retainer are very different things. Tell me what you need and I'll quote properly.

Can employees get their coaching funded?

Often, yes, through Access to Work rather than your training budget. [Here's how it works]

Do you deliver in person or online?

Both. Just ket me know what you’d prefer.
